MURFREESBORO, N.C. –The Chowan University women's soccer team hosted Barton College in a Conference Carolinas matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Hawks Soccer Field.
Chowan applied pressure early, with the Hawks' attack producing the opening goal less than five minutes into the contest. Defender Maya Schofield found the back of the net at the 4:11 mark for her first goal of the season, giving Chowan an early 1-0 advantage.
The Hawks carried the one-goal lead into halftime before Barton broke through in the 67th minute. Ziara Brunson scored the equalizer for the Bulldogs before finding the back of the net again just over five minutes later to give Barton the 2-1 advantage. Chowan continued to push offensively, but the Bulldogs held on for the 2-1 conference win.

Riley Donelly remained active in the attack throughout the match, leading the Hawks with five shots, including two on goal. Amy Cotton added two shots, placing both on frame, while Schofield recorded two shots to go along with her goal.
Takiyah Raynor, Laura Hulme and Ellis Baxter each added a shot for the Chowan offense.
Madison Richardson played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Hawks, recording five saves.
