Featured Hawks: Marcel Ungerboeck
Every Monday through Thursday for the month of July, Chowan Athletics will spotlight select student-athletes and coaches in a series called Featured Hawks. This series highlights Hawks who exemplify excellence in the classroom, in competition, and within the Chowan community. Student-athletes were selected based on their academic achievement, athletic performance, leadership, character, and overall standing with the university. Coaches have the opportunity to share their coaching journey, discuss their programs, and provide insight about their vision for the future.
Fans will learn more about the individual experiences and stories of our student-athletes and coaches at Chowan. Beginning in August, Fridays will transition to Feature Fridays, continuing the spotlight series by highlighting one individual throughout the school year each week.

How do you balance the responsibilities of academics, athletics, and campus life?
Since my freshman year I've played No.1 singles for the tennis team. For student-athletes, It's really important to balance academics, athletics, and campus life. I think the best way to do that is having structure, getting your things done on time, and focusing on what's important.
What do you enjoy most about competing in your sport at Chowan?
The thing that I enjoy the most about competing for the tennis team here at Chowan is giving 100% every time I step on the court. I love to play long, tough matches, so I leave my heart on the court every time I play.
What has been your favorite memory as a Chowan student-athlete so far?
My favorite moment as a Chowan student athlete so far is when we got our first conference win last season. It was a great memory because it was a tough match and in the end I clinched first. It was a good moment for the team because after that we ended the season with five conference wins. For my senior year, I hope to experience a lot more great memories on and off the court.
