MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Chowan University softball team closed out the regular season on the road against the University of Mount Olive, earning a split on the day. After dropping game one, the Hawks responded with a strong 5-2 victory in game two, holding the Trojans scoreless through five innings while tallying seven hits as a team.

Game One
Chowan recorded three hits in the contest, with Kyra Helton leading the effort. Helton singled in the top of the third and advanced to second and third on a passed ball. In the fifth inning, Kellogg singled to right field, while Helton added another base hit to shortstop to move Kellogg into scoring position.
Abby Rutledge earned the start in the circle, pitching 3.2 innings. Makenzi Curry followed with 0.2 innings of relief, while Callie Tyndall closed out the game, tossing the final 1.2 innings.
Game Two
The Hawks struck early, as Kyra Helton delivered an RBI single in the opening inning to score Ava Mizell. The duo connected again in the third inning, with Helton singling to the pitcher to bring Mizell home and give Chowan a 2-0 lead.
Chowan continued to build momentum as Hope Soria lifted a sacrifice fly, advancing Mizell and allowing Hydee Kugler to score. Mizell later crossed the plate again to extend the lead to 4-2. Kugler capped off the scoring after another Helton single, eventually coming around to score to secure the 5-2 win.
Helton led the offense with three runs driven in and four RBI, while also stealing a base. Mizell scored three runs and added a stolen base, while Kugler recorded two runs and a hit. Calliope James contributed two hits and a stolen base, and Kaitlyn Springle added a hit.
Emily Fowler got the start in game two, pitching 4.1 innings with three strikeouts. Abby Rutledge earned the win in relief, tossing 2.2 innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out three.

Chowan turns its focus to the Conference Carolinas Softball Championship, set for Thursday, April 23 through Sunday, April 26 in Duncan, South Carolina at Tyger River Park. The Hawks enter as the #5 seed and will face the #12 seed on Thursday at 1:30 PM on Field 1.
