Hawks Surge Past Emmanuel with Seven-Goal Second Quarter in Conference Clash

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. - The Chowan University men's lacrosse team picked up a strong 16-10 conference road victory over Emmanuel University on Saturday afternoon. A dominant seven-goal second quarter propelled the Hawks to the win, while holding the Lions scoreless in the third quarter helped seal the momentum. Chowan limited the Lions to just one goal in the second half en route to the victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Justin Hill opened the scoring for the Hawks with two early goals in the first quarter, the second coming off an assist from Thomas Rohal. Emmanuel responded with a run of goals before Reed Low found the net off a Hill assist. After a late Lions push, Julian Wolfe capped the opening quarter scoring with a goal in the final seconds.

Chowan took control in the second quarter, beginning with a goal from Low off another Hill assist. Scott Cathcart added an assisted goal by Low, before scoring two back-to-back unassisted goals to keep the Hawks' offense rolling. Following a three goal Emmanuel response, Low and Hill answered again before Low closed out the half with his third goal of the quarter, assisted by Owen Williams.

The Hawks' defense took over in the third quarter, holding Emmanuel scoreless. Tristin Gatewood added a goal, while Low continued his standout performance with another score off a Cathcart assist.

Chowan maintained control in the fourth, as Low opened the quarter with a goal assisted by Williams. Rohal followed with a goal, also assisted by Williams, before Low capped the scoring late in the game to secure the 16-10 win.

Low led the Hawks recording seven goals and one assist for eight points while shooting nine shots on goal Hill added a strong outing with three goals and two assists, along with four ground balls and a caused turnover. Cathcart finished with three goals and an assist, while Rohal contributed a goal and an assist. Williams tallied four assists on the day.

Defensively, Michael Litchfield led the way with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers, while Harry Edwards added two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

In goal, Rocco Smith played all 60 minutes, recording 16 saves along with a team-high eight ground balls and a caused turnover.

The Hawks continue conference play on the road as they travel to Young Harris College on Saturday, April 4. The contest is set for 12:00 PM.
