Chowan Tennis Hosts Barton to Continue Home Conference Play

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University men's and women's tennis teams hosted conference opponent Barton College on Tuesday afternoon. The men earned a 6-1 victory, capturing two doubles matches and sweeping singles play, while the women fell 6-1 despite picking up a win in the #1 singles spot.

Teams/Records: Chowan Women: 4-8 (1-4), Chowan Men: 6-5 (3-2) 

WOMEN
In doubles, Feidi Abreu Rodriguez and Victoria Videla played in the #1 spot, Aime Vera and Felicitas Grillo were #2, and Isabella Turner and Diva Datta competed in #3.

In singles, Chowan earned a point after Marcia Aragon's opponent retired, giving her the victory in the #1 spot. Abreu Rodriguez battled through a three-set match, winning the second set but ultimately falling 6-2 in the third set. Grillo (#3), Vera (#4), Videla (#5), and Datta (#6) all fell in straight sets to their opponents, concluding singles play for the women.

MEN
In doubles, Marcel Ungerboeck and Tadeo Missan teamed up in the #1 spot to win 6-3. David De Simon and Terumasa Inoue played #2 and dropped 6-4, while Thales Sette and Tadeo Sanchez captured the final doubles match 7-5, securing the doubles point for Chowan.

Singles play saw strong performances across the lineup. Ungerboeck (#1) defeated his opponent in two sets, 7-5, 6-3, while Sette (#2) followed suit with a 7-5, 6-0 win. De Simon picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the #3 spot, and Missan (#5) won 6-2, 6-2.

In the #6 spot, Maksim Kachuk battled in a three-set match winning the first set 6-2, dropped the second 5-7, and then took the tiebreak 10-5, securing the final point for the Hawks.

Chowan travels to Due West, South Carolina, to face Erskine College on Friday, March 27, at 2:00 PM.
