MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University men's and women's tennis teams hosted Shorter in a Conference Carolinas matchup on Friday afternoon, with the men's team earning a 5-2 victory while the women's team fell 5-2. Prior to the match, the Hawks took part in the Rose Family Memorial, honoring the Rose family who are longtime Chowan University and Chowan Tennis supporters. CU women's tennis student-athlete Bell Turner opened the ceremony in prayer and presented flowers to the Rose family before the match went under.

WOMEN
Chowan picked up one win in doubles play as Isabella Turner and Diva Datta secured a 6-3 victory in the #3 spot. Marcia Aragon and Janna Lerma fell 6-1 in the #1 doubles match, while Feidi Abreu Rodriguez and Victoria Videla dropped a 6-4 decision in the #2 position.
In singles play, Aragon battled in the #1 spot, taking her second set 6-3. Abreu Rodriguez earned a strong win at #2 with set scores of 6-4, 6-1, 6-1. Videla and Datta each claimed straight-set victories, winning 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively. Turner and Lerma rounded out singles action, falling in two sets in their respective matches.
MEN
The Chowan men secured the doubles point by winning two of three matchups. Tadeo Missan and Marcel Ungerboeck earned a 7-5 victory in a tight match, while David De Simon and Terumasa Inoue pushed their contest to a tiebreak but fell 7-6. Tadeo Sanchez and Thales Sette added a decisive 6-2 win to close out doubles play.
In singles action, the Hawks picked up four victories to win the match. Sanchez, Missan, and Inoue each earned straight-set wins with scores of 6-4, 6-1; 6-4, 6-0; and 6-3, 6-4, respectively. De Simon claimed his match after taking the first set 6-3, dropping the second 6-3, and winning in the final set after his opponent retired. Ungerboeck and Sette competed in the #1 and #2 spots, each taking their opening sets before falling in the final two.

The Hawks will return to the Rose Family Tennis Complex to host Emmanuel College, with the match scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
