CU Flag Football Uses Balanced Attack to Pick up First Program Win in Inaugural Season

NORFOLK, VA. - The Chowan University women's flag football team notched their first win of the inaugural season defeating Virginia Wesleyan 34-13 on Saturday evening. After a connection from Nevaeh Higdon to Kiara Lopez on the Hawks first drive of the game Chowan set the tone for how the rest of the game would go. 

Chowan hit several firsts in the game, including a first 200 yard plus performance on the offensive side of the ball. The Hawks accumulated 283 yards of offense, led by Higdon, who passed for 246 yards and ran for another 23 yards. 

The Hawks used a balanced attack of offense and defense to help propel them to their first program win.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Nevaeh Higdon completed 22 of 34 passes for 246 yards and four touchdowns in the 34-13 win. She connected with five different Hawks receivers, led by Adriana Lightfoot who caught 12 passes for 52 yards. Kiara Lopez had two receptions for 42 yards and a score while Zyian Heyliger caught 2 passes for 39 yards and a score. Janaya Perry had a touchdown and 30 yards receiving. Kiara Arguello had one reception for 26 yards in the game. 

Dusabe Uwera had four tackles, including three sacks. Lightfoot collected 8 tackles while Heyliger had 6 tackles, an interception, and three pass break ups. Jacelyn Hammock had two tackles and an interception in the game. 

UP NEXT

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, March 24, as they head to the University of Mount Olive to continue Conference play on the road.
