Hawks Close Raleigh Triangle D2 Classic 3-2 Following Victory Over Bears

Raleigh, N.C. – The Chowan softball team finished up day two at the Raleigh Triangle D2 Classic, opening the day against Emory & Henry as the contest came to a 1-0 decision in favor of the Wasp. The Hawks then secured a 3-2 win over the Shaw Bears to round out the day and go 3-2 overall in the tournament.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE 

In game one, Ava Mizell, Calliope James, and Kallie Tyndall each recorded a hit at the plate, while Makenzi Curry delivered a strong performance in the circle, pitching 5.1 innings and striking out four batters while facing 21 hitters. Abby Rutledge entered in relief in the bottom of the sixth.

Shaw struck first in the second inning of game two, but Chowan answered in the bottom of the third when Calliope James delivered an RBI single to bring Ava Mizell home. The Hawks later rallied in the bottom of the seventh, as Hydee Kugler crossed the plate to even the score at 2-2 and force extra innings. After holding Shaw scoreless in the additional frame, Alexis Denham came through with a sacrifice fly that drove in Mizell for the game-winning run. Emily Fowler opened the game on the mound pitching a solid 4.1 innings striking out six batters. Abby Rutledge came in for relief, striking out two, allowing only one hit, and no runs to collect the win. That win moves her to 3-1 on the season.
