MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Chowan University women's basketball team grabbed their first win of February, defeating conference opponent the University of Mount Olive, 66-48. The Hawks showed resilience following a week and a half long break due to inclement weather, proving the time away had no impact on their performance. With the victory, Chowan improves to 10-7 overall and 8-5 in Conference Carolinas play.

Yasmine Brown led all scorers with 18 points, shooting 8-13 from the field and knocking down two three-pointers while shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc. Nyeisha Savage finished with 10 points on 5-10 shooting, adding six rebounds, two blocks, one steal, and one assist. Alexandria James-Fearon contributed seven points, going 2-3 from the field and 3-4 from the free throw line, while collecting three rebounds, two steals, one block, and one assist.
Ayanna Rutledge, Yawmari Darden, and Daneesha Briggs each added six points. Rutledge also recorded three assists, two steals, and two rebounds. Darden and Briggs provided their scoring from three-point range during 12 minutes of action apiece, with Darden shooting a perfect 2-for-2 from deep and grabbing three rebounds.
The Hawks displayed balanced scoring throughout the lineup as every player made an impact on the court. Chowan totaled 28 bench points, 26 points in the paint, 15 points off turnovers, and 14 second-chance points.
