Hawks Celebrate Seniors with 92-44 Runaway Win Over Erskine

MURFREESBORO, N.C. -  The Chowan University men's basketball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday evening, defeating Erskine College 92-44 on Bob Burke Court.

Prior to tip-off, the Hawks honored seniors Jalen Hines, Zach Riddle, William Hynes, and Eric Gordon Jr. for their contributions to the program over the years. Chowan got out to an early advantage, controlling the pace of the game to secure the victory.  With the win, the Hawks improved to 14-12 overall and 12-6 in conference play.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

William Hynes and Damerius Summers paced the Hawks with 15 points apiece. Hynes knocked down five three-pointers, finishing 5-6 from beyond the arc and 5--7 overall, while adding two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Summers was nearly flawless, shooting 6-7 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from the free-throw line, to go along with three rebounds and two assists.

Eric Gordon Jr. added 12 points, connecting on four shots from long range and dishing out three assists. Zach Riddle and Markell Hollis each contributed eight points. Riddle shot 2-4 from three-point range and added three rebounds and an assist, while Hollis collected three rebounds, two steals, and two assists.

Dapo Kruyswijk, Jalen Hines, and Israel Powell chipped in six points apiece as the Hawks showcased their depth in the win.

Chowan shot 57.4 percent (35-61) from the field and 45.5 percent (15-33) from three-point range, while converting 70 percent (7-10) at the line. The Hawks dominated across the board with 48 bench points, 42 rebounds, 38 points in the paint, 14 second-chance points, and 12 fast-break points.

UP NEXT

Chowan travels to face Converse University on Monday, February 23, in a makeup contest originally postponed due to weather. Tip-off in Spartanburg, S.C., is set for 6:00 p.m.
