MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University baseball team finished day two of their three game series against Shepherd University playing two 7 innings games on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Ty Boze collected five hits over two games, including a 4-4 plate performance in game one, to help lead the Hawks offensively in the doubleheader. The Hawks pounded out 21 hits in the doubleheader but fell 14-10 and 9-4 to move to 0-3 on the year.

Five Hawks had multiple hit games in the first game of the twinbill. Boze finished the game perfect at the plate, going 4-4 with three runs scored. Boze also stole two bags in the game. Peyton Clay drove in three runs and collected two hits including a double. KJ Durand Jr. had two hits and two RBI as did teammate Ahmaad Goldson. Goldson started the game on the mound, pulling double duty. He pitched 2 innings, giving up five earned runs and striking out three batters. Landon Tyndall pitched 2.0 inning giving up a run and striking out a better. Tristan Stancil came in to relieve Tyndall, tossing 2.1 innings for the decision. He gave up five hits and four earned runs in the outing. The Hawks battled back to take a 9-8 lead into the 6th inning but Shepherd scored four runs in the top of the 6th to spread their lead and get the eventual 15-10 win. Catcher Landon Carnley also had a multiple hit game with two hits.
The Hawks were held to six hits in the nightcap with Boze getting a two run single to highlight the Hawks batters. Josh Tripp got the start on the mound after throwing 2 innings. He gave up six runs and struck out two batters before Cody Ives relieved him. Ives tossed 3 innings, striking out 6 batters. Dawson Wiggins threw the final inning of play, getting a strikeout in five batters faced.

The Hawks return to action this weekend playing in a three games series on Friday, February 13th and Saturday, February 14th against Francis Marion University. Friday features a single nine inning game at 1:00pm while Saturday serves as the double header with the first game at 11:00 AM followed by the second game at 2:00 PM.
