Robinson Has Banner Night in Epic Battle with Braves

MURFREESBORO, N.C. — The Chowan University men's basketball team put up a tough battle against UNC-Pembroke on Wednesday night. Chowan battled back after trailing by as many as 10 points late in the second half but UNC-Pembroke pulled out the 85-82 win. The tightly-contested game featured 8 lead changes and 9 ties with Damerius Summers scoring a game-high 19 points. Summers drained a crucial three-point bucket with :12 left in the game to pull the Hawks within one point at 83-82. The Hawks were forced to foul, sending UNC-Pembroke to the foul line where they converted two foul shots to take back a three-point lead. 

With just under :10 to play in the game, the Hawks took one final shot to tie the game but fell just short, to pick up the 85-82 loss.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Chowan got a career high from Damien Robinson. The junior forward poured in 18 points and had three rebounds. Robinson was perfect from the floor, hitting 6-6 shots he took in the game. Summers ended the game with 19 points and 6 rebounds on a 6-9 shooting performance night. Markell Hollis continued to prove his abilities on the court for the Hawks after joining his teammates in double-figures. He drained six shots for 16 points and had 6 rebounds. He also dished out 3 assists and had two steals in the game. Joseph Lezeau II dropped 13 points, after hitting 2-2 from beyond the arc and 3-4 from the charity stripe. 

Eric Gordan Jr. and William Hynes each scored 7 points in the game.

The Hawks head to Belmont, North Carolina, on Saturday, January 17, to take on Belmont Abbey College, with tip-off set for 4:00 PM.
