Hawks Roll to a 3-0 January Start After 69–57 Win Over North Greenville

MURFREESBORO, N.C. — The Chowan University women's basketball team picked up a conference victory over North Greenville University on Saturday afternoon. Fueled by a dominant second-half performance, the Hawks outscored the Trailblazers by 18 points over the final two quarters, pulling away for a 69–57 win.

Chowan controlled the tempo early, opening the game on an 8-0 run and closing the first quarter with a 17-11 advantage. The Hawks and Trailblazers traded baskets throughout the second quarter, with North Greenville gaining momentum late to take a 32-26 lead into halftime. Chowan responded in the third, outscoring the Trailblazers 19-16 to trim the deficit to just three heading into the final period. The fourth quarter belonged to the Hawks, who surged back in front and never looked back, pouring in 24 points behind a steady trip to the free-throw line to seal a 69–57 victory.

Yasmine Brown led all scorers with 18 points, knocking down 11-17 free throws while adding a three-pointer, two assists and a steal. Wisdom Banks followed closely with 16 points, tying her season high on an efficient 6-9 shooting night, including a perfect 4-4 from the line, while also pulling down eight rebounds, dishing out three assists, and collecting three steals. Desiree Askew recorded a season-high 12 points and posted a double-double, shooting 5-6 from the field while grabbing 10 rebounds and adding two assists. Nyeisha Savage anchored the paint with 10 rebounds and three blocks to go with six points, while Alexandria James-Fearon chipped in seven points along with three rebounds, three steals, and a block.

Chowan capitalized on North Greenville turnovers with 17 points, added 38 points in the paint, 10 second-chance points, 13 fast-break points, and 14 points off the bench. The Hawks also controlled the glass with 43 total rebounds, including 29 on the defensive end, and outscored the Trailblazers in the first, third, and fourth quarters to secure the 69–57 conference win.
