BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Chowan University men's soccer team dropped their season opening match 5-2 to Concord University on Thursday afternoon. Chowan falls to 0-1-0 on the year while Concord improves to 1-0-0 after the match.
Chowan got off eight shots in the match to Concord's 20 and scored both goals off of penalty kicks.

After trailing 2-0 at the half, Chowan mounted a comeback behind the leg of freshman forward, Cameron Letterlough. Letterlough made good on a penalty kick in the 46th minute to cut into the Concord lead at 2-1. Concord added a goal to extend their lead to 3-1 before Chowan's Robbie Deighan answered with another penalty box score in the 56th minute. Despite pressuring Concord defense for much of the second half, the Hawks couldn't seem to find another goal, getting the eventual 5-2 loss.
Lukas Kibrya started in frame for the Hawks, gathering up two saves. Letterlough and teammate Dillon Rajkovic ended the match with two shots each.
