MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University women's basketball team has been named the NCAA Division II Statistical Champion in two categories. The Hawks led the nation in Field Goal Percentage Defense, holding opponents to just 32.5% shooting on the season, and in Rebound Margin, outpacing teams on the glass by an average of 15.7 rebounds per game.
The Hawks earned multiple appearances in the D2CSC Regional Poll throughout the season and broke into the national rankings with a No. 24 spot. Chowan was led by Yasmine Brown, a Second Team All-Conference selection, and Meara Carter, who earned a spot on the Conference Carolinas All-Defensive Team. The Hawks wrapped up an impressive season with a 19-6 overall record and a 15-5 mark in Conference Carolinas play.
