Chowan Softball Falls Short in Doubleheader Against Barton

WILSON, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team hit the road and dropped both games of their Conference Carolinas doubleheader against the Barton Bulldogs.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Chowan softball had a big second inning, scoring seven runs with a mix of solid hits. Alexis Denham got things going with an RBI double to left, followed by RBI singles from Hannah Moseley and Kyra Helton. Calliope James reached on a fielding error that brought in multiple runs, and Mckenzie Misenheimer finished off the inning with an RBI double to extend the second inning lead. Makenzi Curry went 4-for-4 in game one. 

Alex Bishop got the start in the circle, pitching one inning before Kendyl Elliott came on in relief for 2.1 innings. Curry closed out the game with 2.2 innings of work and took the loss, moving to 3-3 on the season.

Chowan jumped out to an early lead in the first inning of game two, as Misenheimer drove in a run on a fielder's choice and later came around to score on a throwing error after stealing third. Barton responded in the second with four unearned runs, including a three-RBI triple and an RBI infield single. Chowan battled back in the third—Calliope James knocked an RBI single to right, and later scored on a double play to tie the game at 4–4.

Curry got the start in the circle, allowing four unearned runs over 1.2 innings. Abby Rutledge took the loss, falling to 4–5 after giving up one unearned run across 2.2 innings while striking out five. Haileigh Boone tossed 1.1 innings in relief, followed by Elliott, who closed the game with a third of an inning.

The Hawks will return home to Hawks Field on Friday, April 18th, for their Senior Day celebration as they close out the regular season with a Conference Carolinas matchup against the Lees-McRae Bobcats.
