MAXTON, N.C. – The Chowan University softball team dropped both games of their road doubleheader against the UNC Pembroke Braves on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
In game one, the Hawks got on the board in the second inning with an RBI single up the middle by Kaitlyn Springle. They struck again in the sixth as Kyra Helton scored on a wild pitch and Lenita Bryson added another RBI.
Kendyl Elliott got the start in the circle, pitching 3.1 innings and taking the loss to move to 2-3 on the season. Alex Bishop came on in relief, tossing 2.2 innings.
In game two, the Braves struck first with a run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Hawks responded in the sixth, tying the game at 1-1 as Ava Mizell came home on a wild pitch. The game extended into extra innings, where the Braves secured the win with a walk-off.
Haileigh Boone started game two, going 4.1 innings while allowing four hits, one run, and striking out two. Abby Rutledge entered in relief, tossing three innings and giving up just two hits and one run, while striking out five. Rutledge was tagged with the loss, falling to 4-4 on the season.

The Hawks will be back on the road for a Conference Carolinas doubleheader against Barton College on Wednesday, April 16, with the first game scheduled for 1:00 PM.
