MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University women's basketball team has earned a spot in the D2CSC Women's Basketball Poll for Week 15, securing the 8th position.
The Hawks have been a force to be reckoned with on the NCAA leaderboard this season. They currently sit at 1st in Field Goal Percentage Defense, allowing opponents just a 32.2% shooting rate. Chowan is also ranked 1st in the nation for rebound margin with an impressive 16.4 margin. They are 2nd in the country in rebounds per game, averaging 45.87, and rank 3rd for offensive rebounds, pulling down 19.1 per game. The Hawks are 6th in scoring defense, limiting opponents to just 51.1 points per game. Chowan ranks 8th in both bench points per game, averaging 27.2, and scoring margin, with a strong 17.4-point advantage.
Nyeisha Savage ranks 19th in the NCAA individual standings for offensive rebounds per game, averaging 4.0 boards.
The Hawks are led by junior Yasmine Brown, their top scorer, who dominates the Conference Carolinas leaderboard in several categories. Brown ranks 16th in scoring, averaging 12.4 points per game. She is also 14th in field goal percentage (.421) and free throw percentage (.550), and 8th in assists with 3.7 per game. Brown ranks 2nd in the conference for steals, with 2.4 per game.
Senior Danea Mackey also stands out on the leaderboard, averaging 2.4 assists per game and ranking 6th in the conference for assists-to-turnover ratio with a 1.3 ratio. Meanwhile, Daneesha Briggs ranks 12th in the conference for 3-point field goals per game, averaging 1.5.
Savage and Meara Carter both make their presence felt on the rebounding leaderboard. Carter ranks 3rd, averaging 8.5 rebounds per game, while Savage follows closely in 5th with an average of 8.3. Savage also leads the conference in blocked shots, with an impressive 1.7 blocks per game, while Carter ranks 5th, averaging 1 block per game.
The Hawks are the #3 seed in the Conference Carolinas Tournament and will take on the #6 seed Shorter in the quarterfinals on March 7th at 1:30 PM at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.
