MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with Barton College on Wednesday evening, coming up just two points short in a hard-fought contest. The Hawks turned in a balanced offensive effort with four players reaching double figures and controlled the glass on both ends to keep the game within reach throughout.
With the result, Chowan moves to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Ayanna Rutledge led the Hawks with 13 points, knocking down two three-pointers and going 3-5 at the free-throw line. Nyeisha Savage delivered a dominant performance, posting 10 points on 5-7 shooting while pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds—11 of them on the defensive end—along with two blocks and two steals.
Yasmine Brown and Wisdom Banks matched her scoring with 10 points each. Brown added four assists and two steals, while Banks contributed three assists and a steal. Daneesha Briggs came through with clutch three-point shooting, draining three threes for nine points on 3-5 shooting and collecting two rebounds.
Chowan shot 39.7% (23-58) from the floor and 63.6% (7-11) at the line. The matchup featured seven ties as both teams traded momentum throughout the game. The Hawks generated 22 points off 18 Barton turnovers, outscored the Bulldogs 26–16 in the paint, added eight second-chance points, grabbed 37 total rebounds, and outscored Barton in the first and third quarters.
