FLORENCE, S.C. – The Chowan University men's basketball team opened day one of the Francis Marion Thanksgiving Classic with a matchup against Lander University, falling 93-77. Five Hawks scored in double figures, and Chowan now moves to 3-3 overall following the non-conference result.

Chowan displayed a balanced scoring effort with three Hawks leading the way. Israel Powell, Eric Gordon Jr., and William Hynes each recorded 15 points to pace the offense. Powell shot 6-12 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc, adding two steals and two blocks on the defensive end. Gordon Jr. was perfect from the line at 6-6, contributing three assists and hitting a three pointer at the buzzer, while Hynes posted a 4-10 shooting mark, went 2-5 from deep, knocked down 5-6 free throws, and pulled down three rebounds.
Damerius Summers controlled the glass with a game-high 10 rebounds, adding 12 points, three assists, and three steals. Joseph Lezeau II also reached double digits with 12 points, highlighted by an outstanding 10-11 performance at the free-throw line.
As a team, Chowan shot 35.8% (24-67) from the floor and an impressive 82.1% (23-28) at the stripe. The Hawks tallied 32 points in the paint, scored 14 points off turnovers, and collected 14 offensive boards for 21 second-chance points. Chowan's bench provided 18 points, while the Hawks added six fast-break points to round out their offensive production.
