FERRUM, VA. – The Chowan University women's basketball team secured a 68–63 road victory over Ferrum College on Tuesday evening. The Hawks put together a well-rounded performance, highlighted by four players scoring in double figures.
Tuesday's result marks Chowan's first conference victory of the season as the Hawks improve to 3–1 overall and 1–1 in league play.

Ayanna Rutledge led Chowan with 14 points on an efficient 5–8 shooting performance while adding four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Wisdom Banks followed with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a game-high four steals.
Alexandria James-Fearon contributed 10 points, three rebounds, and three steals, while Yasmine Brown added 10 points of her own, going 5–11 from the field and pulling down a season-high eight rebounds.
Sa'ni Savage provided nine points and five rebounds on 4–7 shooting, and Nyeisha Savage chipped in six points and five rebounds in just nine minutes of action. Daneesha Briggs added five points, three boards, and two assists, while Breya Busby recorded three points and four rebounds to round out the scoring effort.
As a team, the Hawks shot 43.9% (29–66) from the field and 47.4% (9–19) at the free-throw line. Chowan dominated the paint with 46 points and controlled the glass with 42 total rebounds, including 18 on the offensive end leading to 12 second-chance points and 24 defensive boards. The Hawks also converted 19 points off Ferrum's turnovers and added 15 fast-break points. Chowan outscored Ferrum in two quarters and held the advantage in rebounds, assists, and steals to secure the win.
