CU Swimming Wraps Up Season in Banner Fashion on Senior Day

MURFREESBORO, N.C. –  The CU men's and women's swim teams hosted their final home swim meet of the 2024-2025 season on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks hosted Lees-McRae and Virginia Wesleyan in a double-dual on what was senior day for Aislinn Kessinger, Ethan Moxey, Dakota Reynolds, and Huascar Urbina

The Chowan men's swim team picked up two dual-meet wins to wrap up the season after beating Lees-McRae 113-71 and Virginia Wesleyan 103-96. The women split dual-meet competition with a 99-43 win over Lees-McRae and a 126-85 loss to Virginia Wesleyan. Today's meet culminated the season for both teams and each will have four weeks to prepare for the conference championships in Cary, North Carolina on February 19th.

THE RESULTS

On the women's side, the Hawks tallied four event wins led by senior Aislinn Kessinger, who swam her last home swim meet in the Chowan blue and white. Kessinger won both the 50 and 100 meter freestyle swims with times of 29.75 and 1:06.26 respectively. 

Elettra Dalcerri also picked up two event wins for the Hawks in the 50 and 100 meter butterfly events. Dalcerri posted times of 32.06 and 1:13.11 to take the top spots in both events. 

On the men's side, Dimitrije Markovic claimed wins in both the 200 and 400 meter freestyle events. Markovic coasted to the wall with times of 1:59.02 and 4:20.36 respectively. Aleksei Belolipetskii posted two event wins with wall touches of 30.13  in the 50 meter breaststroke and 1:06.69 in the 100 meter breaststroke. Robert Cabrera picked up the win in the 100 meter freestyle with a time of 53.29 to round out the Hawks individual wins. 

The Hawks men's 200 medley relay team took the top spot with a 1:49.31 finish. Huascar Urbina, Jose Medina, Belolipetskii, and Cabrera teamed up for the home season win. 

The men's 400 medley relay team posted a record setting time of 3:37.51 to take the top spot in the event. Markovic, Belolipetskii, Medina, and Cabrera broke a four-year old record (2021) to wrap up the day. The record-setting win helped to propel the Hawks to two dual meet victories on the day. 

UP NEXT

The CU men's and women's swim teams will begin the tapering training season in preparation for the 2025 Conference Carolinas Swimming Championship set to begin on February 19th in Cary, North Carolina.
