PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team used a stifling defense in the overtime period to knock off nationally-ranked UNC Pembroke in the regular season finale on Wednesday night in Conference Carolinas action.

5.1 remaining, trailing 67-64, Preston Le Gassick got the shooter's bounce to knock down a trey as the buzzer sounded to send the game into overtime.
Chowan went 3-5 from the floor including 2-3 from deep and tallied 7-12 from the line in the overtime period while the defense held UNC Pembroke to 3-12 from the floor.
Daylan Askew led the Hawks with 19 points, while Preston Le Gassick chipped in with 16 points.
RJ Wilson collected a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Aaron Ross came off the bench to tally 13 points.
The Hawks stayed in the contest using nine steals leading to 22 points off turnovers.
Chowan registered win number 19 on the season to tie the program's Division II record for wins in a season. The win also marked the first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent in Chowan's Division II era.
