MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team wrapped up their 2023 season with a 5-1 defeat to Barton at home on Saturday afternoon.

Chowan honored Timothy Blackman, Noah Evington, Caleb Peterson, and Shane Rademacher prior to first pitch.

Aidan Feather picked up a home run and a pair of free passes in the contest.  Ty Johnson, Jackson Dunlap and Caleb Karie posted a hit each for the Hawks.

The Hawks posted three double plays defensively in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Barton opened the scoring in the top of the first with one run before posting three runs in the third inning to lead 4-0.

Ty Johnson picked up a single to right center in the bottom of the third inning.  Defensively, the Hawks pulled off two double plays to end threats.

Barton took advantage of a throwing miscue in the fifth to plate another run.

Aidan Feather and Jackson Dunlap tried to spark a rally in the fifth before a double play ended the threat.  In the sixth inning, Christian Bartholomew and Geomar Santana drew one-out walks.

Jackson Dunlap lined a base hit to right field in the seventh.  Caleb Karie would pick up a single to right to start the eighth.  Noah Evington was robbed of a hit to center with a diving catch to end the eighth.

To end the top of the ninth, Geomar Santana threw out the runner trying to tag-up from third for the double play.

Aidan Feather hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to break up the shutout.
