MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Student-Athletes continued to display their academic prowess with a successful showing at the annual Chowan Awards Day Convocation.

BY THE NUMBERS

107 – number of student-athletes in the Chowan Honors College (138 total students)

121 – number of student-athletes in at least one honor society

52 – number of student-athletes inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma (National College Athlete Honor Society)

8 – number of student-athletes named Chowan Presidential Ambassadors

13 – number of student-athletes that received the Chowan Outstanding Student Award

AWARDS DAY CONVOCATION AWARDS

Seven student-athletes were selected as Commencement Marshalls: Madison Dilday (SBALL), Regan Jackson (WSOC), Logan Jeffrey (ESPORTS), Ashley Mayes (WSWIM), Erica Mock (WSWIM), Collin Riddick (BASE), and Bailey Wilcox (SBALL).

In the Excellence in Leadership Awards portion, Erica Mock was selected as the Excellence in Leadership – Officer Award recipient for her work in the History Club.  Brayden Conboy (MSWIM) earned the President Award for his work in Campus Ministry.

The coveted Mission and Vision Cup was awarded to Team 4:13.  Erica Mock, Collin Riddick, Gabriel Espiritu (BASE), Kashara Simpson (WBB), Skyler Davies (MBB), Brayden Conboy, Patrick Krack (BASE), and Joel Hicks (FBALL) are team chaplains for our athletic programs.

The Order of the Silver Feather is an honorary service fraternity, the purpose of which is to give recognition to those students who have been especially outstanding in their service to the campus community and whose loyalty to Chowan University has been extremely noteworthy.  Four of the six recipients were student-athletes as: Annery Abreu (WGOLF), Erica Mock (WSWIM), Ishua Stroud (FBALL Manager), and Alexa Woolson (VB) were selected.

The Faith In Your Future Award is presented annually to a student who best exemplifies the university's mission and vision by consistently demonstrating the ability to achieve his or her greatest potential in learning and service to the Chowan community.  Brayden Conboy (MSWIM) and Skyler Davies (MBB) were both recipients of this award.

The Merit Award is presented to a graduating senior judged to have achieved at a high academic level in spite of obstacles which would have deterred or defeated a less determined or devoted individual.  David Clark (MSWIM) received the award.

The Presidential Ambassador Award was given to Shane Rademacher (BASE) and Alexa Woolson (VB) for their outstanding service to the university.  Woolson was also selected as the recipient of the Cheryl Joy Hobday McElheney Business Award for her efforts academically and extracurricular activities within the Business department.

Santino Jose Sormani (MTEN) was selected as the recipient of the Dr. DeJesus Outstanding Student in Economics Award.

Within the Sports Science (SSPE) department, Ivory Stallings (MBB/WBB Student Coach) and Eric George (MLAX) were selected for the Joseph Lee Parker and Amy Rozmus Hammond Scholarships, respectively.  The Joseph Lee Parker Scholarship is awarded to a rising junior or senior that is a good role model, demonstrate scholarly pursuits, and shows evidence of leadership.  The Amy Rozmus Hammond Scholarship is named after the late wife of former assistant coach Jim Hammond and is awarded to a deserving student pursuing a career in a sport science related field.

Alex Wildeboer (MLAX) was selected for the Dr. Seok Yoon Exercise Science Award as a deserving student in the exercise science major.

The Garth D. Faile Biology and Physical Sciences Faculty Award was given to Tyaysia Sharpe (WBB) as a student that personifies the core mission of the university and biology department.  The Mary E. Wood Science Award was given to Anixa Rosa-Martinez (VB) as the award is presented to an outstanding biology graduate.

Haydon Ahlers (VB) and Ronaldo Williams (MLAX) were selected as recipients of the Raymond Memorial Science Scholarship.  The scholarship is awarded to returning biology students who is deemed deserving by the biology faculty.

The Acheson Harden Mathematics Award, presented to a freshman/sophomore with the highest GPA with at least one calculus course, was presented to Caston Garland (SBALL).

In the English Department, Asuntha Fleming (WTEN) was selected for the Outstanding English Major Award, awarded to an outstanding graduating English major determined by the English faculty to be the very best.

The Outstanding History Student Award was given to Erica Mock (WSWIM) for her efforts to set the best example to others striving for excellence in the study of history.

Kenneth Phillips (FBALL) was selected for the Romey Peavler Psychology Student of Promise Award.  This award is presented to a psychology major who has shown sincere interest and dedication in the field through research or additional work in applied skills and has helped fellow students either as a tutor, teaching assistant, or in some other notable way.

Logan Jeffrey (ESPORTS) earned the Outstanding Criminal Justice Award for her service to the program and university.

The Department of Religion Honor Award, presented to a religion major who has preformed academically, possesses good character, and participates in religious activities, was awarded to Brayden Conboy (MSWIM).

The Outstanding Graduate in Graphic Design Award was presented to David Clark (MSWIM) for his work in visual art.

At the Chowan University Student Research Conference (CUSRC), Kai Rymes (MSOC) and Sarai Sanders (WLAX) were selected for Awards of Excellence in Best School of Business and Design Paper.  Erica Mock (WSWIM) was selected for Best School of Arts and Sciences Paper.  The Best Poster Presentation went to Andrew Simmons (MSWIM), while the Best Graduate Paper went to David Keck (FBALL).
