Chowan's Season Comes To A Close In The League's Semifinals

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball season came to a close on Saturday as the Hawks fell to nationally-ranked Belmont Abbey in the Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship Semifinals.

Destiny Robinson finished her career with 12 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks.  Aniah Patterson tallied six points.  Meara Carter posted nine points and five rebounds.

Chowan would shoot 20.8% in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Belmont Abbey would take a 7-0 lead in the early portion of the contest before Demetria Bland knocked down a triple.  Meara Carter tallied an old-fashioned three-point play and Aniah Patterson hit a jumper to close the gap to 9-8.  Carter would hit a pair of free throws to give the Hawks the lead.  Sydney Roberts connected from deep and hit a jumper to lead 15-14.

Imani Hickman collected a basket and Aniah Patterson hit a jumper before the break as Chowan trailed 26-19 at the end of the opening stanza.

Destiny Robinson collected a pair of buckets and Meara Carter added a jumper to keep pace with the Crusaders, 30-25.  Keibra Hopkins and Robinson added a jumper each as BAC led 39-29 at the intermission.

Keibra Hopkins and Destiny Robinson chipped away at the deficit before the Crusaders countered with a 16-5 run to end the quarter.  Aniah Patterson and Tyaysia Sharpe connected from the floor and Yasmine Brown added a free throw to trail 55-38.

Chowan was held to two field goals in the fourth quarter collected by Destiny Robinson.  Meara Carter added a pair and Jayah King-Johnson picked up a point from the stripe as Belmont Abbey finished off the victory.
