MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball made an emphatic statement in the second round of the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship with a 94-73 victory over ninth-seeded King on Monday evening.

Five Hawks posted double-figures led by Destiny Robinson with another double-double notching 21 points and 13 rebounds. Aniah Patterson added 15 points, while Meara Carter tallied 13 points and eight rebounds. Demetria Bland added 12 points and Imani Hickman collected 11 points.
Chowan led by 34 at one point in the contest and led 53-34 at the half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Aniah Patterson tallied the opening five points for the Hawks. After free throws, King rallied to cut the deficit to 8-6 before Demetria Bland connected from deep and Meara Carter added a putback. The Tornado would even the score at 13-all with a run.
Keibra Hopkins and Tyaysia Sharpe added a basket each before Meara Carter ended the frame with a three-point play to lead 21-15.
Second Quarter:
Chowan would take advantage of the mismatch in the post on their way to 32 points in the stanza. Destiny Robinson and Meara Carter went to work with a basket each. Yasmine Brown added a jumper before Robinson pushed the lead to 32-21.
Demetria Bland added a pair from the stripe along with a basket by Kashara Simpson and Meara Carter. Destiny Robinson picked up a pair at the line along with a layup and a jumper by Aniah Patterson pushed the lead to 44-30.
Imani Hickman collected a pair of baskets as a layup by Destiny Robinson and a triple by Aniah Patterson ended the half with a 53-34 advantage.
Third Quarter:
Chowan opened the half on a 16-2 run to push the advantage to 69-36. Keibra Hopkins started the run at the line with a pair. Destiny Robinson added a pair of layups and Aniah Patterson hit a jumper. King would grab their first basket of the half prior to another pair from the line by Robinson. Demetria Bland tacked on a triple and Hopkins added a jumper.
Kashara Simpson and Destiny Robinson picked up the final points at the stripe to lead 73-45 at the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Imani Hickman scored six of the eight points to start the quarter for the Hawks to lead 81-47 with 7:08 remaining. The Tornado would go on an 11-0 run to cut into the deficit before Yasmine Brown posted a layup.
Aniah Patterson connected from deep and Sydney Roberts hit a jumper. The Hawks finished off the scoring at the line.

Chowan earns a spot in the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals for the second straight season to face off against Emmanuel. The Hawks and Lions will face-off for the third time this season on Friday, March 3 at 11am in Spartanburg, S.C.
