WINGATE, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team suffered a doubleheader loss to Wingate in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon on the road.

Lindsey Richter went 3-4 at the plate. Haleigh Reid went 2-3 with a home run. Serena Riley picked up two hits with a double. Kaitlyn Matheny posted two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 2, Wingate 20 – five innings
Wingate used a strong bottom of the first to score 11 runs off nine hits and three errors to take control of the contest.
Chowan answered with their only runs in the top of the second as Serena Riley opened up with a double to left field. Lindsey Richter picked up a single to center to put runners on the corners before Kaitlyn Matheny hit a two-run double to left center to cut the deficit to 11-2.
The Bulldogs finished off the contest with nine more runs to take game one 20-2.
Game Two: Chowan 1, Wingate 16 – five innings
Mckenzie Misenheimer opened up game two with a single down the right field line. Lindsey Richter picked up a single to right before stealing second. The Hawks would leave runners at second and third.
Wingate scored two runs in the bottom of the first to lead 2-0. Chowan would load the bases in the third inning but would leave them loaded.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 5-0 in the third inning before Haleigh Reid hit her first home run of the season to left field in the fourth.
Wingate used another strong inning to put the contest away, 16-1.

Chowan wraps up their road swing as the Hawks take on Limestone in a doubleheader on Sunday, February 19. First pitch is slated for 12pm.
