MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team continued their home winning streak with a 68-41 rout of Converse in Conference Carolinas action to start 2023 on Saturday afternoon.

Imani Hickman collected her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Jayah King-Johnson added nine points off the bench. Destiny Robinson had six points, seven rebounds, five steals, and two blocks.
Aniah Patterson added five points, five steals, and five rebounds.
Chowan's defense forced 37 turnovers leading to 20 steals while holding the Valkyries to 29.4% shooting from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Keibra Hopkins started off the scoring after connecting from deep after a steal by Aniah Patterson. Imani Hickman was rewarded for running the floor to put the Hawks up 5-0 with a jumper. Patterson would hit a jumper to force a Converse timeout.
The Valkyries would close the gap to 7-5 with a quick run, but the Hawks countered with a 15-3 run to end the frame. Sydney Roberts started the run with three freebies followed by a jumper in transition after a Demetria Bland steal. Imani Hickman added a three-point play before Converse slowed the run with a three-pointer. Bland answered with a triple as Roberts and Meara Carter scored to extend the lead to 22-8. Converse would end the run before the quarter with a jumper, 22-10.
Second Quarter:
Converse added another basket to start the quarter before Keibra Hopkins scored in transition. Jayah King-Johnson and Demetria Bland connected from the floor to force another Converse timeout, 28-12.
The Valkyries would not connect from the floor for the final 8:24 of the quarter until the buzzer. Converse picked up five points at the charity stripe. Kashara Simpson and Meara Carter connected from the floor to keep the score moving before Jayah King-Johnson added a three-point play. Imani Hickman hit a jumper for the final points of the frame for the Hawks until the basket by Converse to lead 39-20 at the intermission.
Third Quarter:
After a basket by Destiny Robinson and Imani Hickman, the Hawks were sluggish coming out of the half. Hickman added a pair from the stripe before Jayah King-Johnson added a layup. Yasmine Brown finished off the old-fashioned three-point play as the Hawks led 50-31 at the end of the stanza.
Chowan shot 21.1% (4-19) from the floor in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Tyaysia Sharpe hit a jumper to start the quarter before Aniah Patterson connected from deep. Demetria Bland followed suit with a triple before Destiny Robinson sparked a 10-2 run. Robinson hit a pair of free throws prior to baskets by Imani Hickman and Keibra Hopkins. Robinson added a layup before Hickman finished off the scoring.
Converse scored four points in the final two minutes.
