MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2022-2023 Chowan Athletic season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week.
For the week of January 23 – January 29, Ashley Mayes of Women's Swimming and Christian Koonce Men's Basketball for their efforts on their respective teams during the week.
Ashley Mayes| Junior | Women's Swimming | Fairfax, Va.
Ashley would help secure four event wins over the weekend as the Hawks picked up two team wins against Salem and Greensboro. Mayes started off the meet helping the 200 Medley Relay secure the top spot before earning her first individual win in the 50 Free. The junior would go on to win the 100 Fly before helping the 200 Free Relay take the top spot as well.
Christian Koonce | Redshirt Sophomore | Men's Basketball | Charlotte, N.C.
Christian averaged 15.5 points and 2.5 rebounds last week while shooting 61.1% from the floor and 71.4% from behind the arc. Koonce led the team with 14 points against North Greenville before posting 17 points on 6-8 shooting against Emmanuel.
