Hawks Suffocate Crusaders Behind Robinson's Big Night

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Destiny Robinson notched a career-high 25 points on the way to another huge win in Conference Carolinas action for the Chowan Women's Basketball team on Monday evening against North Greenville.

Destiny Robinson scored 19 of her career-high 25 points in the first half as Robinson collected her seventh double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and five assists.  Imani Hickman chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds.  Robinson is 12 points shy of 1,000 career points.

Sydney Roberts and Keibra Hopkins added eight points each.  Aniah Patterson tallied seven points and three steals.

Chowan's suffocating defense forced 25 turnovers with 14 steals.  The Hawks held NGU to 24.6% shooting including 13.3% shooting in the third quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Destiny Robinson put the Hawks on the board with a jumper.  Imani Hickman scored the next four points with a pair of baskets to force a timeout by NGU.  Robinson hit a jumper before Demetria Bland connected in transition to put the Hawks up 10-0.

NGU ended their scoreless streak from the floor after going 0-8 from the floor, Destiny Robinson went 1-2 from the stripe.  The Crusaders earned points at the stripe before Robinson added a jumper and a layup to extend the lead to 15-6.  Robinson exchanged free throws with NGU prior to a layup by Keibra Hopkins, 19-10.

Second Quarter:

Destiny Robinson continued her scoring prowess with the opening seven points along with a free throw by Imani Hickman as the Hawks moved their advantage to double-digits, 27-16.  Sydney Roberts knocked down a triple before Jayah King-Johnson tallied a free throw.

Imani Hickman hit a three-pointer to double-up the Crusaders and force a timeout, 34-17.  Jayah King-Johnson added a jumper before Hickman connected from deep again to push the run to 12-0.  NGU tallied a point at the stripe as Meara Carter offset the point with a 1-2 attempt at the charity stripe.

NGU picked up points at the charity stripe before Destiny Robinson went 1-2 from the line.  The Crusaders tallied a basket as Chowan led 41-24 at the intermission.

Third Quarter:

Imani Hickman collected the opening basket of the half with a layup in transition.  Keibra Hopkins added a pair of layups to give the Hawks a quick 6-0 run and force a NGU timeout, 47-24.  Aniah Patterson picked up a point at the free throw line before Demetria Bland hit a layup in transition.  Hopkins posted a putback basket to continue the run for the Hawks.

NGU posted back-to-back buckets to end the run.  Demetria Bland picked up a point from the stripe along with a pair from Jayah King-Johnson.  Destiny Robinson added a layup before Aniah Patterson knocked down back-to-back triples to push the advantage to 63-28.

Chowan held NGU to six points in the frame as Kashara Simpson connected from the floor to give the Hawks a 65-30 lead.

Fourth Quarter:

Sydney Roberts knocked down a triple to start the frame as NGU answered with an 11-2 run.  Kashara Simpson posted a putback basket before Destiny Robinson collected a pair from the stripe.  Robinson ended the run with a jumper to give her a new career-high.

Kashara Simpson added a jumper as Sydney Roberts chipped in with a pair from the stripe.  Meara Carter collected a jumper as the Hawks took the victory 80-49.

UP NEXT

Chowan returns home after the road swing as the Hawks take on Emmanuel on Saturday, January 28.  Tip-off is slated for 2pm.
