MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2022-2023 Chowan Athletic season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week.
For the week of January 16 – January 22, Meara Carter of Women's Basketball and Preston Le Gassick of Men's Basketball for their efforts on their respective teams during the week.
Meara Carter | F | #40 | Junior | Women's Basketball | Dorchestor, Mass.
Meara came off the bench and helped the Hawks to a 1-1 overall record. Carter averaged 9.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game during the week. The junior posted six points and eight rebounds in a tough battle against unbeaten Belmont Abbey. She would finish the week off with a career-high 12 points and five rebounds in a blowout win against Lees-McRae.
Preston Le Gassick | Freshman | Men's Basketball | Southport, Queensland, Australia
Preston paced the team averaging 16.0 points per game while shooting 40.9% from the floor and 42.1% from behind the arc in a pair of one-point losses. Le Gassick notched a career-high 19 points on five made triples in the loss against Belmont Abbey. The Australian finished the week with 13 points in 19 minutes against Lees-McRae.
