MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2022-2023 Chowan Athletic season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week.
For the week of September 12 – September 18, Anixa Rosa-Martinez of Volleyball and EJ Gatling of Football were named the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week for their efforts on their respective teams during the week.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez | OH | #23 | Senior | Volleyball | San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico
Anixa had a solid week for the Chowan Volleyball team posting 43 kills, 26 digs, and 10 service aces. The senior registered a season-high 13 kills in the win over Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas play.
EJ Gatling | WR | #81 | Freshman | Football | Elizabeth City, N.C.
EJ came up big for the Hawks this week registering two touchdowns including the game-winning touchdown in a 32-29 victory over Johnson C. Smith. Gatling notched his first touchdown in the first quarter to put the Hawks on the board with a 50 yard run around the end. The freshman would put the final touches on the contest hauling in a 28 yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds remaining.
