MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Throughout the 2022-2023 Chowan Athletic season, the Chowan Athletic Department will feature the Ace Hardware Student-Athletes of the Week.
For the week of November 14 – November 20, Jayah King-Johnson of Women's Basketball and Andres Martijena of Men's Swimming for their efforts on their respective teams during the week.
Jayah King-Johnson | F | #12 | Sophomore | Women's Basketball | Newport News, Va.
Jayah would start the week with a career-high 10 rebounds and eight points in a win over Virginia State. King-Johnson would add a career-high 10 points and nine rebounds to defeat Elizabeth City State. The sophomore forward averaged 9.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in the two wins.
Andres Martijena | Freshman | Men's Swimming | Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Andres would break two individual school records and two relay records at the Pacer Invitational over the weekend. Martijena started the invitational with a second place finish in the 400 IM before breaking the school record in the 100 Breast with a NCAA "B" standard time of 54.06 in the finals. The freshman wrapped up the opening day with a school record in the 400 Medley Relay.
Martijena opened up the second day with a school record in the 200 Medley Relay. He would add a third best time in program history in the 200 IM. Andres posted a school record in the 200 Breast with the top time in the finals with a time of 2:02.24.
