Chowan Volleyball Falls To Patriots In Finale

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team could not get the offense moving as the Hawks dropped the regular season finale at home against Francis Marion on Tuesday night.

Madison Hall and Anixa Rosa-Martinez paced the offense with six kills each.  Ellie Middleton added five kills.

Hadley Prince led the Hawks defensively with 19 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Madison Hall and Anixa Rosa-Martinez started off the match with a pair of kills to put the Hawks on the board.  Francis Marion rallied to score the next five points to lead 5-2.  Nia Baskin added a kill before Hadley Prince collected a service ace to put the Hawks up 6-5.  The set of runs continued as FMU countered to take an 11-6 lead.  Nyah Powers and Chloe Putnam teamed up for a block before a service ace by Rosa-Martinez to close the gap to 12-9.  After another run by the Patriots, Putnam and Ellie Middleton collected a kill to trim the deficit to 16-12.  Middleton, Rosa-Martinez, and Hall added a kill as the Patriots took the set 25-16.

After some early kills by Madison Hall, Nia Baskin, and Anixa Rosa-Martinez, the Patriots jumped out to a 9-5 lead with six straight points.  Rosa-Martinez slowed the run with a kill before FMU scored 13 of the next 14 points to lead 22-7.  Haydon Ahlers and Baskin added a kill prior to Hall, Chloe Putnam, and Rosa-Martinez collecting a kill before the end of the set, 25-13.

Ellie Middleton, Madison Hall, and Chloe Putnam kept the Hawks close in the third set with opening kills.  Brianna Moye posted a kill to even the set at 6-all.  FMU answered with a 6-1 run before Moye added another kill.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Putnam, and Middleton added a kill as FMU pushed their lead to 24-13.  The Patriots would finish off the match 25-14.

UP NEXT

Chowan earned the fifth seed in the Conference Carolinas East Division and will play the fourth seeded Barton on Saturday, November 5 at 2:30pm in Florence, S.C.  The winner will take on Francis Marion.
