MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Football team opens CIAA play in a cross-divisional contest against St. Augustine's on Saturday as the Hawks will look to continue their strong play on both sides of the ball against the Falcons.

LAST WEEK'S GAME

Chowan scored a season-high 49 points in a rout against Erskine in their home opener.  Bryce Witt, D2Football.com Offensive Player of the Week, tossed for 405 yards and seven touchdowns in three quarters of action.

Bryce Witt, Imeek Watkins, and Rafiq Abdul-Wahid were selected for CIAA Players of the Week.

Defensively, the Hawks recorded seven sacks in the contest led by Rafiq Abdul-Wahid with 2.5 sacks along with 2.0 sacks by Gilberto Ortiz and Isaac Anderson.  The Hawks would pick off the Fleet twice.

HAWK HIGHLIGHTS

Chowan enters conference play with a 3-0 record with a league-best 41.7 points per game.  The Hawks are averaging a league-best 422.7 yards of total offense while allowing the fifth lowest yards on defense at 322.0 yards per game.

Bryce Witt leads the CIAA in yards per game at 303.3 passing yards and 11 touchdowns to go with 910 passing yards.  Laurence King, leads the CIAA in receiving yards per game (117.7) and Imeek Watkins, third in the CIAA (78.0), leads the CIAA in touchdown receptions with five.

Rafiq Abdul-Wahid leads the CIAA in sacks with 4.5 sacks this season.  Isaac Anderson and Gilberto Ortiz are in the top-10 in the CIAA in sacks.

CLIPPING THE FALCONS

St. Augustine's are 0-1 on the season and have not played since September 4 when they were defeated 58-14 against Tusculum.  The Falcons had their week two contest canceled because of COVID and had a scheduled bye week last week.

The Falcons managed eight first downs in their loss to Tusculum while allowing 31.  SAU had a two quarterback system that went 8-20 for 65 yards and was sacked nine times.

Head Coach David Bowser was an assistant coach at Fayetteville State for 20 seasons.  The Falcons were selected to finish 12th in the CIAA this season.
