Chowan Dominates Trojans In First Leg

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Soccer team posted a dominating shutout against their rivals Mount Olive in the first leg of pool play in the 2021 Conference Carolinas Spring Men's Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Erik Ruiz, Harrison Ardron, Zouhair Bettache, and London Williams scored a goal for the Hawks.  Williams, Ruiz, Bettache and Harri Lovett posted an assist.

Ross Miller picked up the shutout in goal only having to make one save.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

After an opening shot by Mount Olive in the first five minutes, the Hawks quickly went on the counter-attack as Erik Ruiz came out of the scrum in the middle of the box with the ball and deposited it into the back of the net in the eighth minute for a 1-0 lead.

Harrison Ardron had a shot saved in the 32' but the Hawks continued to press.  In the 33', London Williams slid a ball to his left to Zouhair Bettache, who then played the one-touch pass over to Harrison Ardron for an easy 2-0 lead.

At the 41' mark, Ross Miller made his lone save in the contest.

Second Half:

Chowan added to their lead early in the second half scoring two goals in the first 12 minutes of the half.  Erik Ruiz started the scoring sliding a ball from the left side of the box to Zouhair Bettache on the right side for the 3-0 lead in the 54'. 

Two minutes later, Harri Lovett sent in a free kick and found London Williams for a 4-0 advantage.

Mount Olive tallied two corner kicks and three shots in the half until the final five minutes of action as two shots by the Trojans missed wide.

Thomas Shin posted a shot on goal in the 90' before the Hawks took the 4-0 shutout.

UP NEXT

Chowan and Mount Olive will meet in the final leg of pool play action, this time in Murfreesboro on April 25.  First touch is at 4pm.  The Hawks settled for a draw against the Trojans on March 17.
