Hawks Ground Fleet For Postseason Berth

DUE WEST, S.C. – Coming into the contest, all the Chowan Women's Lacrosse team had to do was win and they were in.  The Hawks did just that as Chowan defeated Erskine 20-11 on the road in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

With six career goals to her credit, Brooke Woods-Pennell doubled that total and some with the fourth most goals in a single-game in program history by posting eight goals and one assist on the afternoon.

Charity Brown (4), Grace Taylor (3), and Leia Cabradillia (3) recorded hat-tricks with Brooke Woods-Pennell.  Cabradillia tallied two assists, while Brown and Taylor posted one assist.

Jordan Nicholson recorded two goals on the afternoon.  Rebekah Lucas registered one assist.

Mallory Dunker picked up the win in goal with nine saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Erskine would score early on a free position attempt as Mallory Dunker made two saves to keep the deficit at one.

Leia Cabradillia scored an unassisted goal before Grace Taylor notched a goal following the draw control to give the Hawks a 2-1 advantage.

Brooke Woods-Pennell started her scoring streak getting an assist from Rebekah Lucas.  Following an Erskine goal, Woods-Pennell scored on a free position attempt to put the Hawks up 4-2.

The Fleet would draw even with a pair of goals before Brooke Woods-Pennell scored on back-to-back free position attempts.

Charity Brown added a goal before Grace Taylor found Brooke Woods-Pennell for a score to lead 8-4.  Brown added another tally before the halftime whistle to lead 9-5.

Second Half:

Jordan Nicholson started the scoring for the Hawks in the half with a free position shot.  The Fleet closed the gap with a pair of goals before Brooke Woods-Pennell found the back of the net on a free position shot.

Erskine would try to keep pace with a goal before Brooke Woods-Pennell found Leia Cabradilla for a goal and Charity Brown assisted Grace Taylor for a score to push the lead to 13-8.

The Fleet tallied two goals before Grace Taylor, Brooke Woods-Pennell and Leia Cabradilla scored to increase the advantage to 16-10.

Leia Cabradilia assisted Brooke Woods-Pennell on another goal before Charity Brown scored a pair and Jordan Nicholson found the back of the net to lead 20-11.

Erskine capped off the contest with a pair of goals as the Hawks would take the victory.

UP NEXT

Chowan awaits the release of the bracket as the Hawks grabbed the #6 seed in the 2021 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship.  Chowan will face the #3 seed on Tuesday, April 20.
