MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team was swept by Emmanuel in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Saturday as miscues hurt the Hawks in game one and a late rally came up short in the nightcap.

Delaney Devor led the Hawks with a four hit day. Hannah Eden picked up five RBI on the afternoon with three hits including two doubles.
Kaitlin Brunelli, Serena Riley, and Haleigh Reid tallied two hits each. Riley recorded her first home run of the season, while Reid added a double. Riley and Reid notched two RBI.
Mikayla Luskin went 1-2 in game one with a double and two RBI. Jesse Gentry collected a hit with two walks, while Courtney Lamb walked three times in the nightcap.
Chowan tallied six errors in game one leading to seven unearned runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 8, Emmanuel 15
Chowan took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Delaney Devor drew a one-out walk before Serena Riley homered to left center for the lead. Kaitlin Brunelli singled to left center before being wiped away on a double play.
Emmanuel rallied in the top of the second inning as three hits along with a home run put the Lions on top 3-2.
The Hawks answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-out rally as Paige Wilhelm posted a single up the middle. Mary Grace Crosby drew a walk prior to a two RBI double by Hannah Eden to regain the lead 4-3.
The lead would switch hands in the third inning as Emmanuel scored three runs on four hits to lead 6-4.
Once again, Chowan answered as Serena Riley led off the inning with a single up the middle. Haleigh Reid doubled to left field before Mikayla Luskin doubled down the left field line to even the score at 6-all.
Three errors in the top of the fourth led to three runs for the Lions as Emmanuel pushed ahead 9-6.
Delaney Devor picked up a single in the fourth and Jesse Gentry and Mikayla Luskin reached on free passes, but was unable to post a rally.
The Hawks made noise in the sixth inning as Mary Grace Crosby singled to left center to lead off the inning. Delaney Devor and Kaitlin Brunelli tallied singles to load the bases. Haleigh Reid singled to right field to plate a pair to cut the deficit to 9-8.
Emmanuel would score six runs in the seventh inning on two hits and two errors to extend their lead to 15-8.
Mikayla Luskin drew a walk in the seventh as three straight outs ended the contest.
Game Two: Chowan 6, Emmanuel 8
Emmanuel cashed in again on the miscues as an error prolonged the top of the first to lead 1-0.
Delaney Devor drew a walk and swiped second before being stranded in the first.
The Lions used small ball in the second inning to lead 2-0 with a base hit and a sac bunt along with a single to plate the run.
Jesse Gentry and Courtney Lamb drew walks in the second inning and was left stranded.
Emmanuel would push their lead to 5-0 in the third inning as three free passes and two hits led to the rally.
Hannah Eden sparked a rally in the bottom of the third inning with a single before Delaney Devor reached on a bunt single. Kaitlin Brunelli singled to left field to load the bases prior to a walk by Haleigh Reid to plate the first run for the Hawks. A fielder's choice a pop up ended the rally.
The Lions would pick up the run in the fourth inning to push their advantage to 6-1. The Hawks would start their rally in the fifth inning as Delaney Devor singled to start off the fifth and scored on the misplay by the right fielder. Kaitlin Brunelli and Jesse Gentry singled in the inning but was left stranded.
Emmanuel plated two runs in the sixth inning to push their lead to 8-2 scoring on three hits.
Courtney Lamb and Hannah Eden reached on free passes in the sixth. A pair of ground outs including a RBI fielder's choice by Serena Riley allowed Lamb to score to cut the deficit to 8-3.
The Hawks made one final attempt in the seventh inning as Jesse Gentry and Mikayla Luskin drew a pair of one-out walks before moving up on a wild pitch. Courtney Lamb would draw a walk to load the bases. Hannah Eden delivered a two-out three RBI double to close out the scoring, 8-6.
