BELMONT, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Soccer team remained unbeaten as the Hawks shutout Belmont Abbey on the road on Friday afternoon.

Erik Ruiz posted two goals to pace the offensive attack for the Hawks. Wesley Illes record two assists, both on Ruiz goals.
London Williams notched a goal off an assist from Harri Lovett.
Ross Miller had a fairly easy day between the pipes making one save as the Crusaders posted four shots, one on target.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Chowan was on the front foot in the early stage of the contest as Toby Sims and Aldair Anica Hernandez recorded a shot. Harrison Ardron has a shot on target that was saved.
Harri Lovett would send a long throw in from the right side of the pitch that was deflected off a Crusader defender and found the foot of Erik Ruiz deep in the box for the opening tally of the contest in the 15'.
Ross Miller's lone save came in the 19'. Quickly thereafter, Wesley Illes and Toby Sims recorded shots on goal but was saved by the Crusader keeper.
Wesley Illes and Erik Ruiz would team up in the 35' as Jay Whyatt sent in a throw from nearly the same spot to the end line on the right side of the box. Illes sent a high cross to the far post finding the head of Ruiz for the 2-0 advantage.
Second Half:
Belmont Abbey opened the half with a pair of shots wide of the target.
Jay Whyatt had an attempt saved in the 64'. The Hawks would deliver another goal in the 67' as Harri Lovett sent a free kick from the right side of the pitch to the left side of the six-yard box finding London Williams for the goal and a 3-0 lead.
The Crusaders registered two corner kicks latter portion of the match, but the Chowan defense held on to the shutout.
UP NEXT
Chowan will travel to Barton on Wednesday, March 31 to take on the Bulldogs in a Conference Carolinas contest. Kick-off is slated for 7:30pm.
