Chowan Opens Series With Loss To #8 Trojans

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team dropped a pair of Conference Carolinas games to nationally-ranked Mount Olive at home on Friday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Tyler Jones led the Hawks with three hits on the afternoon.  Ty Johnson picked up two hits in the night cap.  Jeffrey Hiner had a double with a RBI.

Noah Cartwright led the offense with two RBI.

Collin Riddick, Ty Johnson, and DeeJay Seelback posted a scoreless outing on the mound.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 3, Mount Olive 5

UMO would get on the board in the top of the first inning on a pair of hits to lead 1-0.  The Trojans moved their lead to 3-0 in the second on a two-run home run.

Jeffrey Hiner picked up the first hit for the Hawks in the second inning with a double to right center.  The Hawks were unable to plate the run.

Mount Olive added two more runs in the third inning on three hits to lead 5-0.

Chowan rallied in the bottom of the seventh as Tyler West doubled down the left field line.  Tyler Jones singled up the middle and swiped second to put both runners in scoring position.  Dallas Trevena drew a walk to load the bases for Noah Cartwright.  Cartwright would produce a seeing-eye-single through the right side of the infield allowing West and Jones to score.  Jeffrey Hiner hit a sacrifice fly to plate Trevena to close the gap to 5-3.  A ground out and a strikeout ended the game.

Game Two: Chowan 0, Mount Olive 15

Mount Olive benefited from three errors in the first inning of the night cap to lead 5-0.  The Trojans tacked on two more runs in the third inning on three hits to lead 7-0.

Ty Johnson picked up the first hit for the Hawks in the third inning.  Patrick Krack drew a two-out walk but was left stranded.  Tyler Jones picked up a single in the fourth and Ethan Whelan drew a walk in the fifth.

The Trojans added four more runs in the sixth inning on three home runs to lead 11-0.

Tyler Jones recorded a single up the middle in the sixth before UMO scored two runs on an error in the seventh to lead 13-0.

Ty Johnson and Trenton Lee posted singles in the seventh inning but was unable to plate a run.

UMO capped off the doubleheader with two runs in the ninth to take the 15-0 victory.

Chowan and Mount Olive wrap up the series on Saturday, March 27.  First pitch is slated for 12pm.
