WILSON, N.C. – The second seeded Barton Bulldogs gave the Chowan Women's Basketball team fits in the paint as the Hawks dropped the Conference Carolinas Quarterfinal match-up 82-58 on Tuesday evening.

Aniah Patterson led the team with 13 points, while Keibra Hopkins scored 11. Demetria Bland chipped in with nine points and five assists. Kyani Moore produced a spark off the bench with a career-high eight points and 10 rebounds.
Chowan would turn the ball over 23 times in the contest but the Bulldogs did their damage in the paint with 40 points in the paint and 22 second chance points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Aniah Patterson would score the opening points for the Hawks with a euro-step pull up. After a pair of baskets by Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, Shanika Peterkin, for Barton, Monique Jones picked up a pair at the stripe to keep the score even, 4-all.
Barton would go on an 8-0 run to push their lead to 12-4 before Destiny Robinson ended the run with a layup. Monique Jones tallied a layup to cut into the deficit 12-8.
The Bulldogs countered with a quick 6-0 run to lead 18-8 before Brianna Copeland connected from the floor with 2:08 remaining. Demetria Bland knocked down a triple late in the shot clock along with a jumper and a triple by Aniah Patterson to cut the deficit to 20-18 at the end of the quarter.
Second Quarter:
Barton scored the opening points of the quarter with a three-point play as Monique Jones closes the gap with a layup in transition off an Aniah Patterson steal and assist. The Bulldogs converted again with a three-point play before Destiny Robinson converts from the floor, 26-22.
Kyani Moore offset a Barton bucket with a layup before Emaree Hinton hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 28-26. The Hawks kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for over four minutes before a 5-0 run forced the Hawks on a scoreless drought.
Barton would tally a layup before the buzzer to lead 35-26 at the intermission.
Third Quarter:
Aniah Patterson tallied the opening bucket of the half after a steal by Destiny Robinson. Monique Jones posted a long jumper to offset the Barton bucket. Demetria Bland picked up a point at the line to cut the deficit to 37-31.
The Bulldogs countered with an 8-0 run to push their advantage to double-digits, 45-31, and forced a Chowan timeout.
Barton continued their run with a three-pointer before Keibra Hopkins hit a layup to score the first bucket in nearly three minutes for the Hawks. The Bulldog run pushed their advantage to 55-35 as Hopkins tallied a bucket during the stretch. Hopkins picked up a pair of points at the stripe. Aniah Patterson tallied putback bucket to end the run.
Aniah Patterson connected from the floor again to offset the Barton bucket. Monique Jones picked up a point at the line as Barton led 61-42 at the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Demetria Bland knocked down a jumper to start the quarter. Barton tallied the next four points before Kyani Moore scored on the putback. Keibra Hopkins notched a layup on the back-door cut and the old-fashioned three-point play to chip away at the deficit, 67-51.
Kyani Moore posted a layup after an offensive rebound. Demetria Bland notched a layup to cut the deficit to 71-55. After a 1-2 trip to the line by Bland, Moore added another putback layup.
SEASON RECAP
Chowan posted a 7-8 overall record with a program best seven wins in Conference Carolinas action. The Hawks made their second straight appearance in the Conference Carolinas tournament with the seventh seed after collecting the eight seed last season.
