MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan Women's Basketball team used a 38-9 run over the final 14 minutes of action to run away from Southern Wesleyan in a 76-45 victory on Friday evening.

Destiny Robinson posted a career-high 21 points to pace the Hawks. Aniah Patterson tallied 21 points on 8-11 shooting and 4-7 from deep.
Chowan shot a season-high 51.9% from the floor including 63.6% in the opening quarter. The Hawks knocked down 11 three-pointers to tie a season-high.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Chowan went on an 11-2 run to start the contest as Destiny Robinson put the Hawks on the board first with back-to-back jumpers. After a SWU bucket, Keibra Hopkins knocked down a pair of free throws and Aniah Patterson connected from deep off a steal by Robinson before Robinson added another bucket.
Destiny Robinson picked up a pair from the stripe before both sides were scoreless over the next four minutes of the opening quarter. Robinson knocked down another jumper to give the Hawks a 15-4 lead.
After a SWU bucket, Aniah Patterson knocked down a triple and a jumper to push the advantage to 20-6 to end the quarter.
Second Quarter:
Destiny Robinson continued to score picking up a pair from the stripe and a jumper. Keibra Hopkins notched a putback layup to push the lead to 26-10.
SWU would go on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to single-digits, 26-21 aided by five Chowan turnovers.
Tyaysia Sharpe knocked down a three-pointer with 20 seconds remaining to end the SWU run and give the Hawks a 29-21 lead at the intermission.
Third Quarter:
Demetria Bland tallied a point from the stripe to start the half. Aniah Patterson connected from deep to push the advantage back to double-digits, 33-23.
Destiny Robinson picked up a point from the stripe before Aniah Patterson knocked down a jumper to maintain the lead.
SWU would close the gap after a technical foul by the Hawks as the Warriors trimmed the deficit to 36-34 midway through the quarter.
From that point on the Hawks dominated the remaining portion of the quarter. Destiny Robinson would give the Hawks some space with a pair of freebies sparking a 19-2 run. Aniah Patterson completed the old-fashioned three-point play followed by back-to-back triples by Demetria Bland. Keibra Hopkins and Kaylah Henderson knocked down a trey and Aniah Patterson posted a layup before the buzzer to lead 55-36 at the end of the stanza.
Fourth Quarter:
Kaylah Henderson continued the run with the front end of the three-point play. The Warriors picked up a point at the stripe before Brianna Copeland connected from deep and Demetria Bland hit a bucket to push the lead to 62-37.
SWU slowed the run with a jumper but Aniah Patterson knocked down another triple to offset the Warrior basket, 65-41. Destiny Robinson tallied a bucket along with a jumper by Monique Jones. SWU tallied a point from the stripe before Robinson tallied a new career-high with a layup, 71-42.
The Warriors hit a three-pointer to end the Hawks' run, but Monique Jones hit a jumper and Tyaysia Sharpe hit a triple to end the scoring.
