MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Soccer team opened their 2020-21 home slate with confidence in a 5-0 shutout victory against Converse in Conference Carolinas action on Sunday.

Sabrina Henderson recorded two goals on the afternoon to lead the Hawks. Sydney Henderson would post two assists from her defensive position. Michelle Maksimovic tallied one goal and one assist. Mackenzie Pruitt tallied one goal.
The attacking effort by the Hawks would also force an own goal by the Converse defense. Chowan rattled off 23 shots including 17 on goal.
The defensive effort by the Hawks picked up the second shutout of the year and allowed only one shot. Allison Traub recorded her second win of the season in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
The Hawks did not waste time to get the fans cheering as on Michelle Makismovic's second shot attempt, she would find the back of the net. Sydney Henderson would put the Hawks on the counter-attack racing up the right wing to find Maksimovic in the middle of the box for the goal in the 10'.
Sydney Henderson would have a shot saved before the lone shot by Converse in the 27'. Henderson would play a ball up to her sister, Sabrina Henderson, from the back line and spark the breakaway on the through ball. Sabrina would slot the ball into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.
Once again, the Hawks went on the attack in the 34' as Carolina Lucci sent a hard cross into the box for Cristina Flores. The cross would be intercepted by the leg of a Converse defender and redirected into the back of the net for an own goal allowing the Hawks to lead 3-0.
Carolina Lucci and Rhianna Ballard tallied a shot on goal before the halftime whistle.
Second Half:
Sabrina Henderson had two shot attempts saved by the Valkyries' keeper early in the second half.
The Hawks continued to attack as a chested failed clear by the Valkyries found the open boot of Mackenzie Pruitt, who deposited the attempt into the left post for the 4-0 advantage in the 57'.
Shortly thereafter, 39 seconds to be exact, Michelle Maksimovic found a streaking Sabrina Henderson in the middle of the field finding the back of the net far post.
Rhianna Ballard, Cristina Flores, Brielle Dumont, Nicole Mejia and Carolina Lucci had strong looks at the cage but were turned away.
