RALEIGH, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Soccer team fought off the pesky Shaw Bears in the season opener on the road for a 3-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Harrison Ardron, London Williams, and Toby Sims found the back of the net for the Hawks.

Harri Lovett registered two assists, while Toby Sims tallied one.

Ross Miller picked up the win in goal recording one save and allowing one goal.  Ryan Martin allowed oe goal in 24:42 of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

Chowan posted the first goal of the contest in the 9' of action as Toby Sims' through ball from the back line was misplayed by the Shaw keeper allowing Harrison Ardron to tap in the attempt into the near post for the 1-0 advantage.

London Williams and Aldair Anica Hernandez had attempts in the 16' and 17' to push the lead to 2-0 but their attempts were turned away.

Harrison Ardron and Aldair Anica Hernandez had attempts blocked before Toby Sims had his shot saved off the corner kick.

In the 40', Shaw found the equalizer as a ball played from the right side of the box dropped in front of a Shaw attacker on the far post for the tap in goal.

Erik Ruiz and Dennis Bates had strong look at goal but was denied before the intermission, 1-1.

Second Half:

The Hawks were able to find the go-ahead goal in the 50' as Harri Lovett took the corner and found London Williams in the box for the header goal to lead 2-1.

The early portion of the second half was physical as the Hawks were shown a red card on a hard foul in front of the Shaw bench.

Zouhair Bettache looked to give the Hawks an insurance goal in the 67' from the left side of the box but was turned away by the goal keeper.

In the 73', Harri Lovett delivered a long throw in the middle of the box to find Toby Sims.  Sims would slide the ball to the far post to give the Hawks a 3-1 advantage.

Two minutes later, Shaw would go on the counter-attack to pull the contest within one, 3-2.  The Bears looked to equalize in the 78' as a goal was wiped off the board on an offside call.

David Fallerios nearly put the Hawks up 4-2 in the 86' as his attempt was deflected out for a corner.

The Bears were given a free-kick just outside the top of the box in the 88'.  The attempt would be sent wide of the goal.
