Chowan Drops Pair Against Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Chowan Softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Anderson on the road on a rainy Sunday evening after the originally scheduled contest was postponed over 27 hours.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Jesse Gentry led the team with three hits and a RBI including a 2-3 effort in the night cap.  Hannah Eden went 2-3 in the doubleheader with a walk and a hit by pitch.  Haleigh Reid and Kaitlin Brunelli picked up a hit and two walks each.

Chowan left 10 runners on base in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Chowan 2, Anderson 4

After two quick outs, the Hawks loaded the bases on three straight walks by Jesse Gentry, Haleigh Reid, and Kaitlin Brunelli.  Chowan was unable to plate a run in the opening inning.

Anderson would take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the inning on a solo home run and a sac fly.

Chowan would manufacture a run in the top of the second inning as Hannah Eden reached on an infield single.  Mikayla Luskin and Paige Wilhelm moved Eden to third on a sacrifice and a ground out.  Meredith Morgan doubled to left to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Trojans extended their lead to 3-1 with a solo home run in the third.  Hannah Eden singled in the fourth.

The Hawks would cut the deficit to 3-2 as Meredith Morgan reached on an error in the fifth.  Delaney Devor moved Morgan to third on a sacrifice bunt before Jesse Gentry singled to left to score Morgan.

Anderson pushed across an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to lead 4-2.

Chowan had an opportunity in the top of the sixth to plate some runs loading the bases with no outs.  Kaitlin Brunelli and Hannah Naifeh singled to start the inning.  Hannah Eden drew a walk to load the bases before a fielder's choice, strikeout, and groundout ended the threat.

In the top of the seventh, Haleigh Reid and Kaitlin Brunelli drew two-out walks but was unable to rally further.

Game Two: Chowan 0, Anderson 6

Anderson would put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning to lead 2-0 early.

Hannah Eden would be the first base runner for the Hawks in the top of the third after being hit by a pitch.  Megan Vincent pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the inning to keep the contest at 2-0.

Jesse Gentry singled to center field to break up the no-hitter in the top of the fourth inning but was left stranded.

The Trojans tacked on a pair in the bottom of the fourth and sixth inning to push their advantage to 6-0.

Jesse Gentry registered her second hit in the contest with a lead-off to right center.  Haleigh Reid singled through the right side to put a runner in scoring position for the first time in the nightcap.  A ground out and strikeout ended the threat.

Chowan continues their road swing against former Conference Carolinas member, Limestone, on Monday, February 15.  First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
