MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Daylen Askew had a career night as the Chowan Men's Basketball team could not hold off a late run by Barton in a Conference Carolinas contest on Tuesday evening.

Daylen Askew broke out of his slump to score 23 points on 8-14 shooting from the floor.  Askew collected a team-high seven rebounds.  Jaylen Dilliard chipped in with 15 points, while Christian Koonce added 12 points.

As a team, the Hawks had 11 blocked shots as Jay Estime posted three blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

RJ Wilson connected from deep to put the Hawks on the board as Barton raced out to a 10-3 advantage.  Cheick Traore and Jay Estime added a bucket to slow the Barton run as the Hawks trailed 21-7.

Aaron James posted a jumper before Daylen Askew collected a dunk in transition.  Jaylen Dilliard notched a three-point play to close the gap to 22-14.

Daylen Askew scored the next five points for the Hawks before Jaylen Dilliard connected from deep and Chase Barnett's layup to cut the deficit to 28-24.

Chowan would take a 31-30 lead as Christian Koonce knocked down a triple and a layup along with a jumper by Daylen Askew, only for Barton to score before the buzzer to lead 32-31 at the half.

Second Half:

The lead would swap hands in the early portion of the half as Jaylen Dilliard scored the opening bucket for the Hawks.  Jay Estime, Dilliard, and Daylen Askew added a bucket to lead 39-38.

Barton would take a five point lead before Jaylen Dilliard posted a pair of free throws, Jay Estime and Daylen Askew notched a bucket each to even the score at 45-all.  The Bulldogs would go on an 8-0 run before Askew connected from the stripe.

Christian Koonce knocked down a triple to spark a run for the Hawks to even the score at 55-all.  Daylen Askew added a three-pointer and Jay Estime added a layup.  Koonce continued the scoring with a jumper and a pair of free throws to once again even the score at 59-all.

The Hawks would be held scoreless over the next 6:42 as Barton went on a 17-0 run to lead 76-59.  Calvin Ahoume picked up a point at the stripe.  Jaylen Dilliard connected from the floor and picked up a point at the stripe.

Daylen Askew scored the next five points for the Hawks to end the scoring.
