MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team's second half rally could not offset the hot first half shooting by the Flying Fleet in a Conference Carolinas contest on Friday evening.

RJ Wilson posted his first double-double of his career with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jay Estime contributed 12 points while Christian Koonce collected 11 points. Calvin Ahoume tallied nine rebounds off the bench.
Erskine shot 60% (9-15) from behind the arc in the first half. Chowan shot 53.6% (15-28) from the floor in the opening half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
RJ Wilson connected from deep to put the Hawks on the board in the contest. Jaylen Dilliard added a jumper before Erskine went up 11-5. Christian Koonce knocked down a pair of buckets to cut the deficit to 11-9.
Donavon Martin recorded a dunk and Christian Koonce posted a jumper in transition to cut the deficit to 16-13. Erskine continued to push forward as Jay Estime knocked down a triple and RJ Wilson added a layup to maintain their lead, 26-18.
The Hawks would cut the deficit to one, 26-25, with a 7-0 run. RJ Wilson posted a layup and Chase Barnett picked up the next five points including a three-pointer.
Erskine countered with a 10-0 run to lead 36-25 before RJ Wilson tallied a jumper. Jaylen Dilliard and Wilson connected from the floor to trim the deficit to single-digits, 39-31. Aaron James knocked down a triple before the Fleet pushed the lead to 13, 47-34.
Jay Estime hit a three-pointer with less than a minute to go to trail 47-37 at the intermission.
Second Half:
Erskine scored the opening four points of the half before Jay Estime knocked down a three. Calvin Ahoume added a putback bucket and Chase Barnett tallied a jumper in transition. After a free throw by Daylen Askew, Aaron James posted a three-pointer to cut the deficit to nine, 57-48.
The momentum continued for the Hawks as with just over six minutes gone in the half, Donavon Martin had a putback dunk forcing a timeout. Martin and Calvin Ahoume posted a basket to keep the deficit at seven, 61-54.
Erskine rallied with a 10-2 run as Donavon Martin posted a jumper during the run. Daylen Askew posted his first bucket of his career with a three-pointer to trim the deficit to 71-59.
With four minutes to play, the Hawks went on a 12-0 run to cut the game to a one possession contest, 75-73. Christian Koonce started the run with a three-pointer followed by a putback layup by Cheick Traore, layup by RJ Wilson and another jumper by Koonce. Jay Estime connected from deep to end the run.
The Fleet finished off the contest at the charity stripe.

Chowan will be back in action on Saturday, December 4 as the Hawks take on Emmanuel in a Conference Carolinas contest. Tip-off is slated for 4pm.
