FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team opened up the match with a set victory before falling in four sets to Fayetteville State in a non-conference match to finish the regular season.

With her first dig in the opening set, Natalia Vega-Aponte broke the single-season digs record. Vega-Aponte finished with 18 digs. Hadley Prince collected 12 digs.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez registered a team-high 12 kills. Madison Hall tallied nine kills, while Anamarie Colon-Calero posted seven kills.
Ciara Ortega notched 19 assists, four service aces and six digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Nyah Powers and Anamarie Colon-Calero opened the set with a kill. Colon-Calero and Chloe Putnam teamed up for a pair of assisted blocks before Putnam added a solo block and a kill to lead 7-2.
Anamarie Colon-Calero posted an ace followed by a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Chloe Putnam, and Madison Hall to lead 13-3.
Madison Hall add a pair of kills along with a kill by Ciara Ortega and an ace by Hadley Prince to lead 17-8. Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted a pair of kills and Anamarie Colon-Calero notched a kill to lead 20-11.
Fayetteville State rallied to even the score at 22-all with an 11-2 run. Madison Hall ended the run with a pair of kills before finishing off the set with a Bronco miscues.
Second Set:
Anamarie Colon-Calero and Madison Hall opened the set with a kill to offset the Broncos' points. Anixa Rosa-Martinez added a kill as Fayetteville State led 10-4.
The Hawks closed the gap to 10-8 with a kill by Anamarie Colon-Calero and Ciara Ortega. A service ace by Anixa Rosa-Martinez before a block by Chloe Putnam and Madison Hall cut the deficit to 14-13.
Back-to-back service aces by Ciara Ortega allowed the Hawks to lead 16-15. Anamarie Colon-Calero and Anixa Rosa-Martinez pushed the Hawks in front 18-16.
The Broncos would finish off the set on a 9-2 run to even the match.
Third Set:
Madison Hall and Anamarie Colon-Calero posted a kill each before Anixa Rosa-Martinez added a pair of kills.
Haydon Ahlers and Chloe Putnam notched a kill as the Broncos led 14-9. Nyah Powers and Anixa Rosa-Martinez tallied a kill to slow the Broncos' run as the deficit grew 20-12.
Haydon Ahlers notched the final kill of the set as FSU took the set 25-14.
Fourth Set:
Chowan ran off to a 9-3 lead in the fourth set with three aces, two kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and a kill by Nyah Powers and Hadley Prince.
The Broncos rallied to lead 12-11 before Madison Hall slowed the run with a kill. Nyah Powers and Anixa Rosa-Martinez tallied a kill to cut the deficit to 19-15.
FSU finished off the set with six of the next seven points to take the set and match.
