Hawks Stymie Streaking Bobcats In 7-0 Rout

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The regionally-ranked Chowan Men's Soccer team soared to a 7-0 shutout victory over the streaking Lees-McRae Bobcats in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Toby Sims led the team with two goals and one assist.  James Randall, Erik Ruiz, Zouhair Bettache, and Thomas Shin posted a goal.

Harri Lovett led the team with two assists.  Tren Drexhage posted one assist.  The Hawks also was able to record an own goal.

Charlie Farrar and Dakota Reynolds picked up the combined shutout without registering a save.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:

On the first shot attempt of the contest for the Hawks found the back of the net as Toby Sims scored in the fourth minute off a free kick from the top of the box scoring on a curling ball from 25 yards out into the near post for the 1-0 lead.

In the 22', the Hawks would find the back of the net again as Tren Drexhage played the ball out wide to Harri Lovett.  Lovett would send a cross into the box and found Erik Ruiz for the header.

Chowan would move the advantage to 3-0 in the 37' as Harri Lovett's service into the box bounced off the defense and allowed Toby Sims to finish the point-blank attempt into the far post.

Second Half:

The Hawks would pressure early in the second half as Aldair Anica Hernandez sent a cross into the box near the touchline looking for Tren Drexhage as his cross would find the back of the net off a defender's attempted clearance.

Two minutes later, Toby Sims sent a ball from the left side of the box allowing James Randall to poke the ball past the keeper to lead 5-0.

In the 61', Thomas Shin joined the scoring into the far post from the left side of the box.

The final goal came in the 83' as a failed clearance by the LMC keeper found the foot of Zouhair Bettache.  Bettache would take a touch and fire it into the back of the net to lead 7-0.

UP NEXT

Chowan will take a step out of league play to tussle with Wingate in a non-conference match on Tuesday, October 5.  First touch is scheduled for 3pm.
